The Volkswagen Touareg ( German pronunciation: [ˈtuːaʁɛk] ) is a Full-size luxury crossover SUV produced by German automaker Volkswagen since 2002 at the Volkswagen Bratislava Plant . The vehicle was named after the nomadic Tuareg people, inhabitants of the Saharan interior in North Africa.
The 2017 Touareg is offered in three trim levels: the $50,405 Sport with Technology, the $53,705 Wolfsburg, and the $61,105 Executive. All share a premium-fuel-recommended direct-injected 3.6-liter V-6 that makes 280 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. The V-6 is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with a manual-shifting mode, and all-wheel drive is standard across the line. For this review, we drove a mid-level Wolfsburg Edition Touareg with no added options.
